Jim Mora may be the favorite for the new Bronco defensive coordinator, but he hasn’t signed up for the job yet. Although head coach Jon Fox met with Mora for an extensive part of yesterday Jim Mora remains a free agent. According to the Denver Post:

Broncos head coach John Fox spent most of Tuesday meeting with Jim Mora at Dove Valley, but the two had not reached an agreement for Mora to become the team’s defensive coordinator by the end of the business day.

If an agreement cannot be met with Mora then it is expected that the Packers’ defensive line coach Mike Trgovac will be the man for the job. Since a new CBA is seriously lacking, there is a sense of urgency to snap in all the pieces to the collective coaching puzzle. However, since no one can stop the Pack yet in the playoffs, Denver fans may be left waiting until early February to meet the new choreographer of the battered defense.

What do you think Bronco Nation? Who will be the sixth defensive coordinator in the past six seasons? Since when did the Broncos’ d-coord job turn into the defense against the dark arts position at Hogwarts?

Mora has no great incentive to become a Bronco. He is still highly paid by the Seahawks, and he has promised his family they can stay in Seattle. He wants another HC job and would leave Denver at his first opportunity.

For the sake of defensive continuity, we need to look elsewhere, and Elway knows it. It was not a good fit. They will likely stick with Martindale unless Trgovac expresses a great interest. We may have to wait awhile to know for sure. The Packers will likely be busy for awhile yet.

Agreed – Mora would leave at the first sniff of a HC position. We need someone who would, #1 want the job because its a promotion/step up in responsibility and pay and #2 would be willing to put in two, three + years to make the system work. Mora probably thinks he should be overpaid as a DC because he was a HC, but guess what, you were fired bro, no raises for that. I like Trgovac, but waiting for him is risky, no? What are the guarantees he'll take the job? Big risk, but it might be worth the wait, especially if Elway and Fox feel that way.

on the guy from green bay, cant we talk to him as of monday of the coming week? i thought that assistants from sb teams could talk about positions the week following conf championship games.

Unlikely Green Bay would give permission unless they lose against da Bears. (God forbid!)

The Broncos would not be allowed to interview Trgovac unless the Packers lose Sunday or until after the Super Bowl. Although teams can interview head coaching candidates during the down week following the conference championship games, they can’t interview candidates for lower coaching jobs. Unlikely Green Bay will lose against da Bears. (God forbid!)
